6th- 8th Grade Art
Hey there everyone! I’m missing you, and hope you’re all well. This will be the start of several digitally based art lessons that I’ll be posting over the upcoming weeks. I’m hoping to post some interesting and enjoyable lessons based on our art standards that a: we might not otherwise get to do (keep reading for more info), and b: you can participate in if you like. You can expect to see one lesson from me weekly, and these will be posted through the school FB webpages, the school websites, and the 6th-8th Grade Art Google Classroom account I’ve created. I’d love to see any of your work, so feel free to either e-mail it to my work account at hmassey@smithcoedu.net , or send it via the Google Classroom account that I’ve created. I’ll be responding to e-mails between the hours of 8-9 A.M., and 12:30-1:30, M-F if you have any questions!

Digital Art Lessons #1, Week of April 6th-10th, 2020
So….it’s happened….for at least the next month, I’m going to be asking you to use your PHONES in order to participate and complete these art lessons! We’re going to be starting a small unit on photography - for us this will be digitally and phone based. It’s not something we could normally do, but some of our standards ask you to be experimenting with different types of materials, and developing different art making skills. So, I’m excited to allow you the opportunity to try something new for class, and see what some of you come up with! I’m assuming that you’ve all got access to some form of a smart phone of your own, or someone’s you can borrow. If this isn’t the case, please let me know.
For this week, I’d like you to do the following:
Watch 3 Brain Pop (http://www.brainpop.com) videos.
Logins for Brain Pop are as follows:
DES login followed by password: smdefeat smith
UHS login followed by password: smuhes smith

Once logged in, go to: Art&Music >>> then watch the 2 videos on Cameras and Photography. You’ll get some basic info on the history of cameras, photography, and some good tips! Pay special attention to suggestions for composition and the rule of thirds! Glance through the related readings for some extra information on cameras and photography!
Go to brainpopjr.com (same logins), and watch the video on Claude Monet -- your first photography assignment will be based upon him!
Using your phone, and keeping in mind good composition and the rule of thirds, I’d like you to take a series of three photos based on the work of Claude Monet! Here are the rules:
a.) You must take three photos of the exact same place or object! Monet really loved nature, flowers, trees, gardens, and landscapes - so if you can do this outside, then that is preferable. If not, see what else you can figure out!
b.) Monet was fascinated with how the same location or scene might look at different times of the day, during different types of weather, seasons, and lighting, and often tried to capture these changes with paint! He was known to paint the same scene over and over again - sometimes dozens of times! I want YOU to take your three photos, attempting to capture the exact same spot/image, BUT, I want you to pull a Monet, and take these photos at different times of the day, or in different types of weather, different types of cloud cover (sunny,cloudy, partly sunny, etc.)! The goal is to have three photos of the same image, but that look different thanks to the lighting, weather, time of day, etc!
c.) Post your series of three pics to either our Google Classroom page, or e-mail them to me!
