K-2 Options

#1 - In the springtime, I love to read and sing the book Little Bunny Foo Foo with my students. The naughty bunny and catchy song make for a lively class. Even though we can’t be together, I thought you guys might still enjoy it!

First watch the version with the actual book I like to use. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FvQZwtxCQ5w

Second select one of these two other versions to watch. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yTqVltEy4JY

Once you have, compare and contrast. What was the difference in voices you heard? Were they single or groups, male or female? Were the stories the same or different? Which was your favorite? Why did you like it best?

#2 - Pick a sunny day and go outside to play sound bingo with the attached bingo board. Print out two and play against a friend. First person to hear the sound gets the square. Five in a row wins. Use your ears and win the game!

3-5 Options

#1 - This time of year makes me think of Impressionist music like Debussy. Open two tabs on your computer. On one tab, open Clair de Lune (one of my all time favorite piano pieces). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CvFH_6DNRCY

Listen to Clair de Lune while you open Quavermusic.com. (remember to log on with google and allow flash many times). Go to Student Interactives, bottom left. Select books. Open and read the basic book on Debussy to learn about the composer to whom you are listening. Shoot me an email to tell me if you like his music and let me know how you did on the quiz.

#2 - Sticking with my springtime love of Impressionist music. Watch the first 1:46 of this video that explains how Impressionist music and art are similar.

Afterwards, listen to Clair de Lune (meaning Light of the Moon) by Debussy.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CvFH_6DNRCY

Then listen to La Mer (meaning The Sea) by Django Reinhart.

Shoot me and email and let me know what you think. Which one sounds the most like the object the composer was trying to imitate? Does La Mer sound more like the sea or does Clair de Lune sound more like moonlight? Which was named most appropriately? Is one better than the other?
