The FAFSA deadline is approaching on February 1st, 2021. This deadline is very important because, in order for your senior to receive TN Promise, Hope Scholarship, or any financial aide this must be completed by the deadline. We are including the informational packet we have received from the state to help with filling out this information. If you have any further questions feel free to call guidance at GHS 615-683-8245, or email chandra.gillilan@smithcoedu.net.
As of December 10th, 24.24% of your Tennessee Promise applicants had submitted the FAFSA.
As a reminder, Tennessee Promise applicants must submit their FAFSA by February 1st, 2021, to maintain eligibility for the scholarship. You can monitor your students’ FAFSA filing progress by pulling the TN Promise Report in e*GRandS. This report will show you a list of your Tennessee Promise applicants and whether they have submitted a FAFSA. Instructions on pulling this report can be found here.
As you continue to seek creative ways to support your students in filing the FAFSA, I would encourage you to review the resources available on www.TNFAFSAFrenzy.gov, including our TN FAFSA Frenzy Toolkit, which provides important information about the FAFSA, best practices, and helpful templates to make your FAFSA efforts successful.
Additionally, THEC/TSAC is providing the following resources for FAFSA assistance:
· School Workshops: As in years past, the TSAC Outreach team is offering FAFSA completion workshops for Tennessee high schools. Due to the pandemic, most workshops are being conducted virtually only. To schedule a school workshop, you can contact your regional outreach specialist.
· Direct Student FAFSA Assistance: This year we are providing three new ways students and families can receive direct assistance with completing the FAFSA:
- Watch Our “How to Complete a FAFSA“ Videos. These quick videos walk students through each step of completing a FAFSA. Videos can be accessed on YouTube here.
- Attend a Live Virtual Workshop. We offer two virtual workshops every week in which a Tennessee FAFSA expert will walk students through the steps of completing the FAFSA. Students can register for a workshop here.
- Contact Us. If students need additional assistance completing the FAFSA, they can reach out to our FAFSA experts at FAFSA.Help@tn.gov. A FAFSA hotline has been established to provide a direct point of contact for students and their families to receive FAFSA help: 615-350-8668. We have staff standing by to help.
I hope you have a peaceful and restful holiday break. The new year will bring new challenges, but we at THEC/TSAC remain committed to helping you support students in any way that we can.
Sincerely,
Troy Grant| Senior Director of College Access
