8th Grade Poems

Our 8th graders had a project to write poems (Narrative and Lyrical) for their ELA class. Here are the students works:

Do you want to know why

 this pebble is lucky?

Blake found it while we

where camping 2 hours away.

And before he drove home he

carefully placed it in his bumper.

I hope it stayed there when he left.

And it did! Through a rainstorm and traffic

through many a mile Blake's pebble

stayed put. When I held it I smiled for it made Blake remember

when we traveled so far and Blake's pebble rode

all the way home in Blake's car.

Fall (Lyrical)

As the summer heat fades,

And the cool breeze sways

The crunchy leaves fall,

We give thanks all.

The season of movies and staying inside,

Wrapped up in a cozy blanket,

Staying up till midnight.

Fall (Narrative)

Halloweens just around the corner,

Getting ready to scare.

Kids watch out,

You better beware.

I sit on the stairs with a bowl of candy,

My mask just might come in handy.

Both Lyrical and Narrative Fall is by

Paxton Abbott, Rubye Gentry, Kodalee Wright, Rebecca Mayse, Marie Lopez, Abbie Kemp.

Olivia and Sophie

argue over a pencil

they found it on the floor

they couldn't decide who's it was.

They pulled it back and forth

and it snapped in half

they argued even more.

Ms. Olivia heard the argument

and save them both a pencil

the argument was resolved.

I was sitting by my window

the air was freezing cold

but I could see a rainbow

and I could see the sun glow.

The rain had just ended

all the birds returned

and my happiness was mended

Poems above by Olivia Brooks, Layla Hortman, Braden Hughes, Sophie Lawson, Stellah Hale and Gavin Westphal

My hamster is scary,

his name is Gary.

He is sad because he lost his berry

and he is very hairy.

I ate his berry

so he is chasing me

so I have to flee from this

hairy, scary Hamster name Gary,

who is chasing me.

I woke up one morning

and the sun was beaming,

the flowers were gleaming.

I came downstairs and the teapot was steaming.

And my brother, George was screaming

because he got a beating and I had to leave

because I had a meeting,

I came home and my hamster was eating.

Poem by Samuel Lavender, Ezekiel Barrientoz, Easton Kemp

In a wood, a cottage stood,

three bears call it home,

Papa bear, Mama bear and Baby bear the"I"d roam.

A pot of porridge, steaming hot

that left it too cool and wait,

but Goldilocks is wondering girl, arrived at their gate.

She peeked inside, the door ajar,

and saw the porridge there.

One bowl to hot, the next to cold,

the last just right for she.

She ate it all, with not a crumb,

then found three chairs to try.

Papa's too hard, Mama's too soft, baby's broke.

With a sigh, upstairs she wand.

Three beds she saw. The first to firm and high,

the second to soft, a feather bed.

But the last just right to lie.

She drifted off fast a sleep, until the bears returned home.

"Who's been eating my porridge' roared Papa Bear, with a might roar.

"Who's been sitting in my chair?" cried Mama, with a frain,

and "Who's been eating my porridge?" with a frown,

"and Who's been sleeping in my bed?" little baby bear did sound.

Goldilocks awoke, a startled sight,

She jumped up in a fright and out the door she ran with haste,

back into the forest light.

Poem by Lily Smith, Anna Page, Layla Bass-Bowden, Greydis Vargis-Ramirez, Logan Doop, Gabriel Perkins-Gentry

As I lay in my bed awake at night.

I get a phone call and

find out that one of my close friends had

past away over a bad

edekson of drugs.

You are like a rose of sunshine.

You keep me moving and grooving.

You keep me a wake.

You are a chance I'm willing to take.
