The Pre-K through 4th grade teacher of the year for Smith County is Mrs. Julie Thomas. Mrs. Thomas teaches 2nd Grade at New Middleton Elementary. Mrs. Thomas isa veteran teacher that has taught in Smith County Schools for over 28 years.

The Grades 5-8 teacher of the year is Mrs. Larissa Shrum. Mrs. Shrum, a veteran teacher with 18 years of experience, has taught in Smith County since 2009. She currently teaches 7th and 8th grade English and Social Studies at Defeated Elementary.

The grades 9-12 teacher of the year for Smith County Schools is Mrs. Hailey Dickerson. Mrs. Dickerson has taught for 14 years, 11 years for Smith County Schools. Mrs. Dickerson currently teaches computer science and ACT prep at Smith County High School.
